The Centre for Theoretical Studies (CTS) is an inter- disciplinary centre providing facilities for theoretical research in fundamental areas of science and engineering. The facilities at CTS are available to all members of this institute and are also extended to researchers in other organisations through the Visitors Programme.

History and Geography

The centre has been in existence since 1998 and is located in the first floor of the Sahid Bhavan (Old Institute Building) at the Eastern end of the IIT campus. This building has the distinction of having housed the Hijli Detention Centre during the period prior to India's Independence and a few of the prison cells are still to be seen near this building.
